olis of brick and mortar.Practically all that is left to-day of the kasr isthe foundation-work or solid brick mass, though theTemple of Melita is partially existent, and enough ofthe flooring and partition-walls of the palaces toenable the explorer to draw fairly accurate conclu-sions as to the size of the rooms. The whole kasr with its enclosing walls isabout 500 yards by 360, and it includes withinits space three palaces, a temple, and a canal,besides a portion of the famous Holy Way whichHerodotus described for us. Thus the kasr bearssome resemblance to the fort at Agra with its threepalaces merging into one another, but there thelikeness stops, for the citadel of Nebuchadnezzar canin no way have compared with the fort of the Mogulsas far as size or architectural beauty or richness ofmaterial is concerned.
