English: Malcesine, Castello Scaligero.
The photo was taken at the point where Goethe drew the castle on September 14, 1786. The drawing was torn up by "a somewhat unprepossessing-looking man", before Goethe had finished it. He was accused of being an Austrian spy and was nearly arrested. Goethe describes this incident in his "Italian journey":
Deutsch: Malcesine, Castello Scaligero. |
