January 17

10:15 – 11:00 AM: Overview of Wikipedia Education Program & Campus Ambassador role (Frank & Annie)

  • What is the Wikipedia Education Program
  • Program goals, timeline
  • Campus Ambassador role & expectations

11:00 AM – noon: Wikipedia Basics (Ahmad & Mohamed)

  • Questions & concerns about Wikipedia
  • Joining Wikipedia
  • Editing with username vs. editing anonymously

1:00 – 3:30 PM: Wikipedia Basics, continued (Ahmad & Mohamed)

  • (Create note-taking page with group)
    • Ask Campus Ambassadors to take notes on that page collaboratively for the rest of the training
  • How to create a new article
    • Not creating duplicates of existing articles
  • How to choose a good subject to edit
  • Interacting with the community
  • Recent changes & watchlists
  • Where to find policies & procedures
  • Core policies
    • Neutral point of view,
    • Verifiability
    • What Wikipedia is & is not
    • Copyright/plagiarism

3:30 – 4:00 PM: Wrap-Up (Ahmad, Mohamed, Frank, Annie)

  • Feedback from participants about today: what did the participants like & not like?

January 18

10:00 – 11:00 AM: Brief Self-Presentations from Participants (Annie)

  • Each participant will stand up in front of the room and talk for 2 minutes about something related to himself/herself (for example: a story from his life, where he is from, what he likes to do, etc.)
  • After each person's brief self-presentation, the other participants will give him feedback about what he did well and not did well in terms of his public speaking skills

11:00 AM – 12:30 PM: Images & Community (Ahmad & Mohamed)

  • How to upload images to Wikipedia (via Wikimedia Commons)
  • The local Wikipedia community, meetups

1:30 – 3:00 PM: Presentation Skills (Ahmad & Mohamed)

  • For example: don't scroll too fast
    • Interactive
  • Discussions rather than just lecturing

3:00 – 4:00 PM: Wrap-Up (Ahmad & Mohamed)

  • Remaining questions?
  • Summary of entire training
  • Feedback on entire training
  • Review of Campus Ambassador role & expectations
